Xi’an History
Xi'an, named Chang-in ancient times,
is located on the central plain. It borders the river
of Wei to the North and the Qin Ling Mountains to the
South. The city's location makes it a vital hub of transport
and trade, linking the South west, central plains and
east regions of China. Southeast of Xi'an, on the central
plains is the place of origin of Chinese civilization;
Lantian County – where human remains and artifacts believed
to be 500,000 years old have been found.
The Qin, Han, Tang more than13 dynasties established
their capital in Xi'an. It is a city of fascinating
history and rich culture that is known throughout the
world, and along with Athens, Rome and Cairo can be
called one of the four great civilizations.
Xi'an isn't only an ancient capital but also the earliest
international trade center in China. As the starting
point of famous ‘Silk Road”, China exported traditional
products such as tea, silk and china to overseas, helping
to write the start of the glorious page of Chinese ancient
history. The home of the Terra cotta warriors, ancient
city wall and 500,000 years old village sites, Xian
is a truly a must for any visit to China. |
